Zurich Celebrates Pride Month with Chicago Pride Parade and Other Events

Zurich believes that our future is brighter together because our voices are diverse, our behaviors are inclusive, our actions drive equity, and our people feel a sense of belonging, ensuring that everyone feels valued and confident to bring their full, authentic self to work. To achieve this mission, Zurich established our nine Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). This month, PrideZ, has planned many exciting initiatives to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community for Pride Month.
On June 1, PrideZ held a virtual Happy Pride Hour to kick-off Pride Month and to share the fun things they had planned with employees encouraged to wear their favorite Pride gear. That same week, employees, both in-person (Orlando) and virtually, participated in a 4.9K run/walk. The event is held every year to commemorate the lives taken in the Pulse tragedy on June 12, 2016. The funds raised benefited the onePULSE Foundation, which supports a memorial that opens hearts, a museum that opens minds, educational programs that open eyes and legacy scholarships that open doors. Last week, employees came together for a discussion of “A Secret Love,” an LGBTQ+ movie about a lesbian relationship, available on Netflix. After falling in love in 1947, two women – Pat Henschel and pro baseball player Terry Donahue – begin a 65-year journey of love and overcoming prejudice. The PrideZ leadership team led an insightful discussion.
On Sunday, June 26, employees participated in the Chicago Pride Parade, convening at Montrose Avenue and Broadway Street. PrideZ members walked in the parade and welcomed all spectators. This parade had special meaning as the first year Zurich was set to march (2019) was rained out and it has been canceled the past two years due to COVID-19. Learn more
