Zurich North America applauds the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis’ diligent work over the last year that resulted in yesterday’s publication of “Solving the Climate Crisis: The Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy, Resilient, and Just America.”

We believe the global impact of climate change is one of the most complex issues facing today’s society. The Congressional Action Plan is a positive and significant step towards addressing how the government should work with the private sector to help tackle these issues. Zurich is committed to working with our public and private partners to enhance resilience and advocate for solutions to prevent or minimize damage from weather and climate-related perils for our customers and communities.

In addition, we know an integral component of tackling climate risk is to take forward-looking steps to help prevent future damage, as opposed to a post-facto approach. Research shows that for every dollar invested in resilience building before an event saves $5 in future losses. At Zurich, we utilize this strategy using our Post Event Review Capability research methodology to help clients understand what they can do today to protect against tomorrow’s risks, and we were happy to see the same mindset adopted in the Congressional Action Plan.

We look forward to working with Congress as they work to turn the Action Plan into legislation.
